Erin Fletcher asked:

Everyone wants to have healthy looking skin and a good looking body. Nobody, if given choice, would want cellulite. Cellulite is being a big worry for everyone, from fat women to skinny ones, from young girls to even some men. Even some top models experience cellulite. It may be that some of them only have a little cellulite that is only visible in a certain light, but this small amount is enough to knock the confidence of any woman.

Cellulite is the expression used to describe pockets of fat right under your skin. These are fat cells that have become enlarged causing these cells now to take up more space between the skin’s connective tissues than normal; the fat then expands these spaces resulting in the overlying skin dimpling in. The thighs, buttocks and the abdomen are the most common areas for a woman to develop cellulite.

Cellulite is the bumps under your skin which causes the surface of your body to look dimpled as an orange peel or cottage cheese. Cellulite of any kind makes a person’s skin look uglier. For many this is a reason to cover up on the beach and at work or not even go at all. Cellulite causes many image problems and many women don’t dare to wear short skirts or shorts because of it.

Do you want to get rid of cellulite? Fight back! Women do whatever they need to look more beautiful. Are you? Laura Ng asked:

For a woman who is concerned about cellulite, you must have found out all about the facts of cellulite : – they are ugly deposits of fat, water and waste trapped in the fibrous, connective tissue just beneath the skin, thereby giving a lumpy, rippled appearance when we pinch our skin. What’s more upsetting is that women are more likely to be affected by cellulite than men.

Cellulite is an irritable problem because they are found in areas difficult to exercise, like thighs, buttocks, ******* and abdomen. It is difficult to remove cellulite. Fact.

Some women do not give up. They approach expert help to remove the unwanted cellulite. However, don’t be fooled by these so-called 100% effective methods as they are temporary solutions which could really disappoint you in the end.

1. Creams and lotions

Advertisements claimed that such creams are able to improve cellulite by melting away fats, improving circulation, and removing toxins because of the herbal extracts, caffeine and vitamins in them. Though this method is the easiest and cheapest, there is very little evidence that they work. Some creams may cause skin allergic reactions.

2. Pills

Like creams, many pills containing vitamins, herbal or plant extracts claimed to be the removal agents for cellulite. Again, very little evidence shows their effectiveness. Instead, overdose of such pills often lead to malfunction of our organs, and in some serious cases, death.

3. Skin Wrapping

May or may not use with creams or lotions, this approach uses a skin wrap eg transparent film sheet to wrap the cellulite areas tightly for a period of time. It claims to “melt” the fats by applying pressure and heat on the affected areas but the effectiveness is yet to be proven.

4. Liposuction

Liposuction is said to be effective in removal of fat at deeper level and body contouring. However, the fat in cellulite is very superficial and distributed in small fibrous septa compartments. It cannot be easily removed by liposuction. In fact, by removing the deeper fat cushion beneath the fibrous septa compartments, cellulite may get worse.

5. Mesotherapy

This approach involves injecting medications and/or plant extracts into layers of fats which will stimulate the metabolism of fat cells and accelerate their elimination. Though this treatment is gaining popularity, there is actually very little data on efficacy and safety. The formulation used in injections has not been standardized and some clinics or weight management centers are not licensed to perform such injections. Thus, it comes no surprise that allergic or irritant reactions and infections have been reported with mesotherapy.

6. Massage therapy

Some massage system work, but only temporary. Usually, you will be asked to sign up for 10 to 20 intensive sessions, followed by maintenance sessions once or twice a month. The effect will soon be lost without the maintenance sessions.

During these sessions, high-tech machines, sometimes coupled with infra-red or radiofrequency energy are often used to massage on the affected areas so as to expedite the metabolism of fats and improving the elasticity of fibrous septa and fat. Cellulite will only improve after multiple treatments and appearance must be maintained with ongoing treatments.

Think about this ladies, if any of the methods above really works 100%, would we still worry about cellulite ?

Does dieting and exercise helps?

Sad to say, dieting and exercise can help but they can’t totally solve the cellulite problem.

That’s because cellulite is basically a genetic, hormonal and anatomic problem. It signals poor lymphatic circulation which allows wastes to accumulate. It is heredity, meaning the loose connective tissues are inherited from our mothers. It also has to do with our age. That’s why skinny women may have this problem too.

However, Dieticians/Nutritionists still recommend that you exercise regularly and eat a low-fat, high-fiber diet. Exercise helps to build tone and muscle, which makes the skin looks firmer and improve blood circulation. A diet high in insoluble fiber with lots of water helps to wash out the waste from our system.

Whether you like it or not, cellulite is here to stay. We just had to learn to live with it.

Rebecca Knight asked:

Many people want to have liposuction. There is a reason why it is the most popular surgical procedure in 2005 based on ASAPS(American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery). On the flip side many of the same people are concerned with the pain, risks and recovery times associated with a surgical cosmetic procedure like liposuction. This is where the quest for a liposuction alternative begins. Are there really alternatives to liposuction that are both effective and safe?

Liposuction has been used in the world of body contouring and shaping since the 70s. The liposuction procedures work to remove fats from areas that can include:

* Abdomen

* Thighs

* Knees

* Hips

* Buttocks

* Chin

Liposuction comes with the customary risks associated with surgery. Some are minor but some major risks exist particularly when anesthesia is involved. Recovery time is also a consideration depending on where you are having the fat removed and how much your are having done. These concerns drive the need for a valid liposuction alternative.

The most basic and common sense liposuction alternative revolves around changing your lifestyle to a more healthy one. Diet and exercise are a fundamental part of fat reduction. Some people have the discipline and the guidance that allow them to succeed in this area but others tend to go so far and reach a peak when it comes to fat reduction. People concerned with certain areas of the body like the abdomen or the chin may find that they can’t lose that last bit of fat no matter how hard they exercise and how well they eat.

For people who really wish to get rid of excess fats without surgery, you have several options to choose from. You need to be advised though that the results may not be as instant as liposuction. They do help you to reduce pain, risks, recovery time and costs.

Some Available Liposuction Alternatives

Depending on the area involved your liposuction alternatives may vary. Some liposuction alternatives that we have found are:

1. Thermage

2. Lipodissolve

3. Mesotherapy

4. Liposelection

Mesotherapy and Liposelection appear to be better for the bigger parts of the body. While Thermage and Lipodissolve seem to work better for the face, neck and chin.

Thermage is a liposuction alternative that uses heated lasers to tighten the patient’s skin on different areas of the body as well as the face. This procedure is considered a pain-free liposuction alternative and has been a common alternative for face lifts.

Lipodissolve is a procedure where fats are flushed out through the urine. The areas with unwanted fat are injected with medications and enzymes, which causes fat to dissolve and to be flushed out. Lipodissolve and mesotherapy are similar but lipodissolve is the liposuction alternative that is recommenced for removing excess fats on the face, especially the neck and chin areas.

If you need to work other areas aside from the face, neck and chin, another liposuction alternative called mesotherapy can be your best bet. This procedure has been used for many years to reduce cellulite. Similar to lipodissolve a patient is injected with a combination of substances. In this case medications, holistic compounds and amino acids are used.

Liposelection is the last liposuction alternative we will discuss. This treatment works by filling the fatty areas with saline solution to restrict the patient’s blood flow while breaking the fat tissues. Ultrasound energy is transmitted into the area for softening the fats and then taken out using suction and massage. In some ways this sounds like Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction but is said to be less painful.

These liposuction alternatives are not yet approved and you should know that the only proven method of removing fat cells is liposuction. However, these alternatives could work for patients who require small treatments. There are more options that are popping up every day but you need to consider their safety. We’ve also noticed a trend in trying to brand certain procedures even though they are very similar to each other. Research each liposuction alternative carefully.
